OMR 20 million Shrimp Farming project to boost Oman's Economy
Muscat: At a total cost of OMR 20 million, the "Shrimp Farming" project is a step towards achieving economic diversification in Oman, the Ministry of Economy said.
The "Shrimp Farming" project is one of the fisheries sector projects that contributes to achieving the objectives of the Economic Diversification and Financial Sustainability priority In the 10th Five-Year Development Plan (2021-2025). The ministry added, "The project is also considered an addition and a complement to economic diversification projects, determined every 5 years."

The project established in 500 hectares, at Qurron area in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, South AI Sharqiyah Governorate, with expected production capacity in 2022 is 2,100 tonnes and the expected production capacity post full-commissioning 4,600 tonnes per year by 2023.
The ministry stated: "The project contributes to the realisation of the Strategic Programme "New Hi-tech Industries" which seeks to establish new industrial clusters throughout the Sultanate. The programme serves the purposes of economic diversification by increasing focus on high- and medium-tech industries, achieving food security, increasing reliance on local products and finding alternatives to imports."
